This week a former UK Supreme Court Justice took to the airwaves to strongly criticise the government\u2019s latest laws designed to tighten restrictions on social interactions which came into force on Monday the 14th of September.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to\u00a0Lord Jonathan Sumption<\/strong>, the government\u2019s cryptic \u2018Rule of Six\u2019 law which prevents more than six people,\u00a0 children, from gathering socially in both indoor and outdoor settings, and homes, gardens, pubs and parks \u2013 is \u201cpointless, arbitrary and unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis one size fits all approach is deeply destructive\u2026 it\u2019s much more efficient for everybody to make their own decisions in a responsible way,\u201d says Lord Sumption.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n On the issue of legality of the government\u2019s policy he remarked,<\/p>\n I think it\u2019s very unlikely that the courts are going to decide whether it\u2019s necessary because this is not only a difficult question \u2013 a technical and scientific question, but it has to be weighed against all sorts of other social considerations unrelated to health \u2013 the social damage, the collateral medical damage, the educational, and economic damage, and so on.
